Water System Flow, Chelsea MA

The water system of Chelsea consists of the water supply (blue), stormwater (green), and the wastewater flows. The volume of discharged stormwater and combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the Chelsea Creek, and the volume of discharged effluent from the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to Massachusetts Bay depend on the runoff volume. The more green infrastructure and less impervious surfaces a city has, stormwater infiltration increases and subsequently volumes of runoff and discharges decrease.
